The chickens at MGCS were feeling a little left out with the upgrades happening at the school that they needed their own upgrade to their coop!

Our first day of school is quickly approaching!! 🍎

Our 120 year old building is getting a facelift thanks to the Maple Grove Foundation and the Charter School Implementation Grant! We are thrilled to have the opportunity to brighten this buildings rich history🍁🦊

Today is the day, come check out the Community Closet!

Come check out our first PTO meeting of the 24-25 school year! All families invited!

They say it takes a community, and we have an amazing community surrounding Maple Grove Charter School!
At last nights School District of Athens board meeting the Maple Grove Foundation presented a check in the amount of $30,000 to the district to cover the cost of painting the exterior of MGCS by an outside company in August! This project was in the memory of the Edward and Alice Fromm family, emulating their dedication to rural education for deserving students.
We are forever grateful to the Maple Grove Foundation for their generous donation and their mission to support MGCS! Thank you for always supporting our vision💕🍁🦊

Employment Opportunities

Come and relax in our BEAUTIFUL new pollinator garden at MGCS on the upper playground 🌺 🐝 This pollinator garden will be used by learners to study different pollinators, plants, and insects for years to come. We now have homes for local birds, bats, butterflies, and even toads!🐸
A TREMENDOUS thank you to the Flory family who designed, built, and donated so much of this gorgeous garden for ALL to enjoy and learn from!💕🦊

At MGCS we are excited for the opportunities that our new greenhouse shed will bring to our learners, and our storage shed for our outdoor learning equipment! Thank you to Yoder Sheds and Westfall Construction for the foundation! These were made possible by our Charter School Implementation Grant.

Athens School District Hours

We would love to have you a part of our growing school community!

Intermediate Safety Patrol members at Maple Grove Charter School were invited to show their leadership skills and teamwork at an inaugural camp-out on our very own school forest property. Members chose to lead camp songs/games, cooking supper over an open fire or cooking breakfast the following morning before rolling down the hill to celebrate the last day of school. Highlights included: High fives over setting up tents successfully, starting a fire with cook worthy coals, kids unplugging from technology for 17 whole hours and ultimately kids supporting kids in an environment that challenges them.

Maple Grove Charter School will be having a community garage sale on May 31st & June 1st from 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. We have a very full gym full of goodies for you and your family!

"If you don't ask, the answer will always be no." This is the motto our third grade teacher, Ms. Barrick, shared with our MGCS, when she was presented with a $500 check from AAA for the safety patrol program she redesigned for our school this year!
This grant is only awarded to 10 schools nationwide and MGCS was one of them. Thank you AAA and thank you Ms. Barrick for your work writing the grant and for the "ask!"
This money will be used to continue creating leadership opportunities for our learners at MGCS in our school wide Safety program.

We have the best community! Thank you Hamburg and Corning Fire and EMS for continuing this fantastic program, Fired up to Read! Every Friday for the entire second half of the year this wonderful volunteers come to read with our learners to continue to foster the importance and love for reading 📖
Last Friday, they wrapped up this year's program by rewarding kids who met their goals with a variety of generous prizes from sweatshirts, a bike, fire truck rides, and a pizza party for ALL learners that met their goal! Thank you so much Hamburg and Corning Fire and EMS for your dedication and support to our kids and the importance of reading!

This week Maple Grove Charter School had a spelling bee!! Students qualified to make the final round which was presented to the school and parents! Congrats to the top 3 spellers: Marty Servi, Justin Servi, and Hosea Thunder!
Our 1st place winner was 5th grader Marty Servi!
Congratulations to all our contestants! 🐝

Last week students and staff from Maple Grove were able to perform their diverse talents for our school wide talent show! Talents included: slime making, singing, dancing, sports skills, jokes, and many other fun ideas! It takes bravery and perseverance to perform on a large stage with an even larger audience! 🦊

Ms. Etten's first grade classroom has hit capacity with the recent addition of over a dozen chicks. Thanks to HayMeadow Farms, it was a very successful hatching at Maple Grove that resulted in all but 2 egg. While the chirping can be distracting at times, the experience and opportunity to apply the school CRISP traits is only possible with experiences like this!
Incubation✅
Candling✅
Lock Down ✅
Provide food and water, heat, a safe home environment within the classroom, and an overabundance of attention and holding ✅✅✅
So far the learners are loving this responsibility and ability to show compassion for animals 🐣💕
It is hard to believe within a week these chicks will be going to their forever homes❤️ stay tuned for further cuteness!!🐥🐣🐥

Ms. Szutkowski's fifth-graders explored the wonders of water ecology on Olivotti Lake at Camp Birch Trails. 🌊🚣♂️ From learning about aquatic ecosystems to mastering canoeing and kayaking, it was an unforgettable journey of discovery and adventure. And who knew turtle racing could be so thrilling? 🐢💨
